What is Search Engine Optimization?
Simply put, search engine optimization, or SEO is the process of designing your website so that it gets “organic” search results — that mean you don’t pay for them — on the search engines like Google, Bing or Yahoo.
There are only two ways to get traffic on the internet: Paid and free. Paid traffic is traffic that you attract to your website due to advertising — be it on other websites, radio ads, Google AdWords, or print media. Depending on the keywords for which you are trying to rank, paid traffic can be very expensive to buy.
Organic traffic — also known as “natural traffic” is traffic that comes to your website that you don’t pay for. You might get this traffic in a variety of ways, such as links from other websites, appearing high in the search engine results for certain keywords or keyword phrases, or word of mouth from happy customers and clients. Organic traffic is the best kind of traffic, because you don’t pay a penny for it. The only problem is that it can be hard to come by, and the “formula” for getting organic search engine traffic can seem like a moving target to many business owners.
This is where search engine optimization can make a big difference. SEO is the process of making your site attractive both to visitors and to the search engines. The video below explains SEO quite plainly.
